About the Bamboo Flute
The dizi - commonly referred to in Western culture as a "bamboo flute" - is a Chinese transverse flute constructed out of bamboo. It is traditionally created out of a single piece of bamboo and is often the focal point of music of iconic Chinese pieces. This style of music is introduced to the Western culture through various platforms, often labeled as "meditation music." (Frederick Lau 2008) |
About Chinese Folk Music
Chinese folk music dates back over 7,000 years. It is based largely on the pentatonic scale and differs from Western music in that it pays more attention to expression. |
